Brand Strategy to Clarify Your Positioning
Brand strategy clarifies the positioning, value proposition, tone, and foundations of a business before creating its visual identity, website, or marketing tools.
At emma branding, brand strategy is the foundation. Before discussing logos, design, orwebsites, I define what your brand should express, who it speaks to, and what makes it truly distinctive.

What Is a Brand Strategy?
Brand strategy is the framework that defines your brand’s positioning, personality, tone, voice, and role in the public’s mind. It establishes the foundations that will guide the visual identity, website, and all communications.
Your Brand Positioning
This is the place your brand seeks to occupy in its market, in the minds of its customers, and against its competitors. It defines what makes you relevant, credible, and distinctive.
The Brand Platform
This is the set of strategic foundations that structure the brand: essence, mission, vision, differentiators, promise, personality, tone, and communication codes.
Brand Voice and Storytelling
This is the consistent and engaging way of telling your brand’s story. It guides the voice, tone, messages, and editorial codes that give personality to your communications.
The Brand's Visual Identity
This is the graphic translation of the brand’s positioning through the logo, colors, typography, and all visual codes that ensure its consistency.
The Brand Strategy Process
My brand strategy approach is based on Marty Neumeier’s brand definition process. It allows me to clarify what truly distinguishes a business, define a strong brand positioning, and build a coherent, relevant, and sustainable brand image. Each step feeds into the next to bring forth a brand that is both good and different.
1. A Series of Strategic Workshops
I begin each project with a series of strategic workshops with the brand’s key stakeholders and decision-makers. These sessions allow me to understand the business in depth, bring out its distinctive strengths, identify what makes it unique, define its personality, and better understand the target audiences it wishes to attract. I facilitate a discovery workshop, a uniqueness workshop, a workshop on the brand archetype, and a target audience workshop. These exchanges are essential, as they inform all the strategic thinking to come.
2. Strategic Analysis
Following the workshops, I compile, interpret, validate, and structure all the information gathered. I also analyze the competition or comparable organizations to obtain a comprehensive picture of the environment in which the brand operates. This step allows me to position it accurately using Marty Neumeier’s approach, in a space that is both good and different. It is also at this stage that I define the personas, target audiences, and strategic positioning, to precisely guide graphic and editorial choices.
3. Copywriting and Conception
I then transform all this thinking into a clear, articulated, and useful brand platform. It is at this stage that I define the brand’s personality, voice, tone, and strategic foundations such as its mission, vision, and essence. I also write the brand pyramid, which synthesizes the key elements revealed throughout the process. Everything is compiled in a comprehensive brand book, which becomes a true reference work for the business or organization.
